In Memoriam - Rick Barile
Posted July 8, 2008
It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the loss of one of our founding and most supportive members … and friend, Rick Barile.
Rick passed away on Friday, July 4th as a result of injuries sustained in a boating accident on the St. Johns River in Palatka. According to reports & witnesses, Rick (a very experienced hi-speed boat captain) was doing what he loved best, enjoying a ride in one of his boats on Friday afternoon. When turning into the wind near Marker 23, the boat went airborne and flipped over. Although Rick was pulled from the water quickly and life-saving procedures were begun immediately by Good Samaritans/first-responders and continued by fire-rescue, he succumbed to his injuries at Putnam Community Medical Center.
Our deepest sympathies go to his wife, Penny and his family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.
Rick was the General Manager of the St. Augustine Marine Center for the last several years and a peer and friend to many of us in the MIANEF. His professional expertise, enthusiasm, friendship and smile will be terribly missed.
The Executive Committee is currently researching the best way for the MIANEF to honor Rick and will follow up over the next week or two. If you would like to make a contribution in Rick’s honor, an account for his widow has been set up.
Please make checks out to Penny Barile and send it to
